our curriculum

At Kineton, we try to encourage a love of education and learning that will last a lifetime. By treating all our children as individuals – and with an understanding that there are many different ways to learn – we help them discover their own strengths, abilities and interests.
We believe that an quality curriculum is one built on inspirational learning activities and high-quality teaching. At Kineton, we believe in creating a classroom environment that allows children to learn in a way that motivates and interest them.
What we Learn
Beginning at the Early Years Foundation Stage, we guide our pupils through Key Stages One and Two, as they gain confidence and skills in English, Maths and Science, as well as Art, Design and Technology, Computing, History, Geography, Music, Modern Languages and PE. In addition, we provide a solid Religious Education and also ensure that all pupils receive Personal, Social and Health Education.
We follow a structured synthetic phonics programme using the Read Write Inc. scheme.
Please see the half termly newsletters from more detailed information about the current curriculum for each year group. These can be found on the class pages of this website.
How we Learn
Since September 2014, we have adopted the Cornerstones curriculum, a starting point for deep learning centred around imaginative learning projects. Each learning project such as Scrumdiddlyumptious, Potions, Land Ahoy is an imaginative and creative way in which to build knowledge and skills. Each project is split into sections, which see children progress through four stages of learning: Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express.
Here at Kineton Primary School we provide a creative curriculum based around the Cornerstones Curriculum.
What is the Cornerstones Curriculum?
The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum is delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning.
We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum provides lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.
We use Cornerstones’s essential skills framework that outlines the end of year expectations in all subjects, along with Development Skills materials. These enable staff to track children’s progress on a termly basis and identify their individual learning needs.
How it Works
Children progress through four stages of learning in each ILP – Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express. To find out more about these stages please click on the link through to Cornerstones website:

Big Maths
We use Big Maths in order to develop children's mathematical fluency. This takes the form of a daily CLIC session (counting, learnits, it's nothing new and calculations). This is reinforced by all children having access to Mathletics at home and at school to enable them to practise vital mathematical skills.
