Assessments

Well done to all children who have been working so hard on assessments this week. You have all tried really hard.

Celebration evening – date change

Due to Year 5’s trip to Kingswood we have changed the date of the celebration evening at which you are invited to look at your child’s work, meet informally with class teachers and visit your child’s classroom and teacher for next year. The date has moved from Wednesday 9th July to Tuesday 8th July. Further details will follow closer to the time.

Walk to school week

This is next week and the School Travel Plan Committee hopes that everyone will make an extra effort next week to walk, cycle or scooter to school. We hope to show that our Travel Plan is working when we compare ‘How green is your tree?’ from last year.

Writing week

Next week is also writing week. Every class in school will be looking at a painting by William Turner and doing lots of cross-curricular work based on the children’s ideas. There will be a particular focus on writing and we hope to display examples of the work produced in the entrance area.

Recycling

Bag2School blue bags with instructions printed on them will be sent home next week. Please try to fill these with unwanted clothes and return them to school on the morning of 12th June. Do not bring bags into school before this date as we do not have the space to store them! Many thanks.

School disco

‘The Friends’ will be holding a children’s disco’ next Thursday, 22nd May. For Reception and KS1 children, it will be from 5.00pm-5.45pm. For Key Stage 2 children, it is from 6.00pm -7.00pm. Entry costs £1 and goodie bags costing 50p can also be bought. The infants need to be dropped and collected via the school front door. Key Stage 2 enter through the Reception doors and are collected from the school front door.

School prospectus

We are in the final stages of updating our school prospectus and hope to include photos of life in school within it. Please let office staff know if you would prefer that photographs of your child in school are not included.

PE Kits

The children will be trying out for the athletics teams next week and will need their PE kit in school every day. There are sports team photos booked for 3rd June – please check all school team kit is back in school.

Swimming

We have changed the pool cover this week but have experienced problems so have not been able to use it. This has resulted in too great a drop in water temperature so we have been unable to swim. This should be rectified and we hope we will have the pool back in use on Monday.

Kingswood / Marle Hall

A meeting for parents and children will be held in the classrooms at 5.30pm on Wednesday 21st May.

Music Tuition

Letters were sent out yesterday regarding music tuition for next year. The reply slip needs to be in school for next Tuesday 20th May.

Term Dates

Dates for the new school year are attached to this newsletter.

School car park

There was very nearly a serious accident join the school car park this morning caused by a parent driving quickly into the car park and dropping off a child whilst a pre school child was waiting at the pedestrian crossing. Please be reminded that no parent should be using the car park between 8.30am and 4pm. This is for the safety of all our children and your support is appreciated.

Reception Outdoor Classroom

Work on this continues, particularly regarding the tarmac area  which is being re-surfaced to prevent puddles forming!

Myton Hospice Sunflower Walk

The hospice is organising a fundraising walk on Sunday 1st June 2008, followed by a barbecue in the gardens of the hospice. Please ring ‘fundraising’ on 01926 492518 if you are interested.

Have a lovely weekend!

Margaret Pollard

 (Acting Headteacher)
