Welcome
back ! A
very happy new year to everyone! I hope you enjoyed the Christmas break. I
am delighted to have taken over from Lucie Buran as Acting Headteacher in
Mrs Moffatt’s absence. As you are aware, I have been closely involved in
the management of the school for quite some time and will continue to work
closely with Alison Sayer (Deputy Headteacher) and Laura Hall (Year 6
teacher). Please
feel free to pop in and have a quick chat or to make an appointment to see
me should you wish to have more time. I look forward to working with you
all to support the school and our children. Assembly
Themes This
term we will have two themes linked to our work in PSHE (Personal, Social
and Health Education). For the first half of the term, we will be looking
at ‘’Going for Goals’’, followed by ‘’Good To Be Me’’. Class
Newsletters I
hope you have all received your child’s class newsletter for this term.
I’m sure you will find it interesting and useful to know some of the
detail of your child’s curriculum this term. It may prompt some ideas of
ways you could help with your child’s learning this term either by
offering resources to school or by working at home with your child. Class
Assemblies Each
class will be leading an assembly during this term or early next term. I
hope that many parents, grandparents or other family members will be able
to come along. As the assembly will be at 10.10am, we would also like to
invite parents to join the staff for a coffee or tea after assembly while
the children have their break. Term
Dates Please
find attached to this letter the term dates arranged so far. NB teacher
training day on February 18th when the school will be closed for children.
Kerb
Safe I
am looking for volunteers: part-time staff, parents or grandparents, to
train as adult instructors in a new road safety scheme we are starting for
children in Classes 1+2 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Once trained
you would work with a pair of children and teach them how to cross the
road with an adult, be safe on the pavement and how to recognise safe
places to cross. The training will probably take place on the afternoon on 7th February so please let Mrs Sayer know as soon as possible if you are interested in joining this scheme. You do not need to have a child in Class 1 or 2 and the expectation is that, once trained, the instructors will continue to train the next set of children in the following year. New
Staff and Children Firstly,
welcome to George in Class 2 and Madison in Class3. A big welcome to Miss
Linnett who will be working with Mrs Hall in Year 6. Friends The
Friends are holding a Film Night for children on Thursday 17th
January from 5pm to 7pm. Films to be shown are ‘Shrek 3’ and ‘Shaun
the Sheep’. The cost will be £1 which covers the cost of refreshments.
Parents are welcome to stay with their children. Other upcoming events are
pancake racing on Sunday 3rd February and the Easter Fayre on
Saturday 15th March. Further details will follow. Clubs There
is a form and reply slip about clubs with this newsletter. Please reply
promptly as some clubs are limited in numbers. As you will see, Ms Stimson
is running a cooking club on Monday evenings and would appreciate offers
of help. To cover the cost of ingredients there is a nominal charge of £1.50
per week. Numbers are limited
for this activity. Please do not send money in at this stage.
Healthy
Lunch Boxes Sandy
Clayton, the School Nurse, will be talking to children in assembly on
Monday about healthy packed lunches. She will also be talking to parents
on Tuesday 15th January 2.45-3.15pm. Please indicate on the
slip below if you wish to attend to give an idea of numbers. School
Website We
are still looking for someone to update and manage the school website.
Please let me know if you would be interested. Calendars If
you have any large old calendar pictures that we could use as art
resources, please send them in to Mrs Locke. In particular, we are looking
for art from other cultures, pictures of masks, Dali pictures and William
Morris prints. Jewellery
Please
be reminded that no jewellery should be worn in school, including
earrings. This is for health and safety reasons. If you wish to have your
child’s ears pierced, please do so at the beginning of the summer
holiday so that earrings may be removed during school time. PE
Kit Please
ensure your child has their PE kit in school at all times. Skipping We
will be focussing on improving our skipping skills whilst on the
playground and in place of the Fun Run whilst the field is so wet. You
will receive a separate letter giving you information about skipping
events to be held this term. Cake
Sales By
popular request, we will be holding cake sales again this term. Each class
will hold a sale during morning break on a Thursday and dates are included
in the attached list. Money raised will go towards equipment for the
school. Have
a lovely weekend! Margaret
Pollard (Acting
Head teacher) Healthy
Packed Lunches I
will be attending the parents’ information meeting on Tuesday 15th
January Signed
