These
photos are from a recent trip on 30th November 2006 to
Tamworth
Castle
. This was as part of our History topic about the Victorians. The class
was split into two groups and taken off to separate workshops. One
workshop allowed the children to dress in typical servant’s costume and
learn the duties of a Victorian servant. We were taught how to bow and
courtesy and the housekeeper inspected our hands to see how clean they
were! The adults got told off for wearing jewellery (you weren’t allowed
to wear any in Victorian times!). The housekeeper was very strict and you
weren’t allowed to talk to your friends or slack on the job! The other
workshop allowed the children to hear about and examine Victorian
artefacts such as the cane, a carpet beater and a candle snuffer. Some
children tried on rich Victorian children’s clothes! We all thoroughly
enjoyed our visit!
