Introduction
This
is a statement of the Policy and Practice relating to behaviour at It
will be reviewed annually. Our
school aims to include and encourage all children in appropriate patterns
of behaviour and standards of discipline. It is underpinned by the values
encompassed in our ethos statement: At
Kineton we try to LOVE,
GIVE, CARE AND LIVE, RESPECT,
BE HONEST and FORGIVE And
believe that EVERYONE
HAS THE RIGHT TO GO HOME HAPPY! Encouraging
and Affirming Good Behaviour We
seek to inspire children to achieve high standards of discipline and
academic achievement by praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement
of good behaviour. Some
indicators are: Merit
assembly Awarding
of stickers Certificates
in records of achievement folders Granting
of privileges Commendation
to the Headteacher Awarding
of house points for individual and class effort Class
reward schemes e.g. Golden/choosing time Behaviour
certificates at the end of each term School
Rules Rules
have been purposefully kept to a minimum and simplified for clarity 1.
Listen to all adults in school and do as they say.
2.
Don’t interrupt lessons.
3.Always
be polite .
4. Always do your best.
5.
Move sensibly around school. 6. Take care of each other. 7.
Share and take care of school equipment. 8.
Ask permission to touch or take someone else’s
things. Sanctions
for breaking the rules: First
time : Warning Second
time: Warning Third
time: Yellow
card. Pupil
will miss the next play or lunch break.
Fourth
time: Red card.
Pupil will be sent to the Headteacher. The Headteacher will speak to the
pupil and also contact the parents to arrange a meeting to discuss the
pupil’s behaviour. This
will also apply at break times when the pupil will be sent inside to be
monitored by a designated member of staff. At
the end of the break time the pupil is allowed to return to class and
apologise. When a child has completed a sanction, we stress to them (and
to other children if necessary), that the episode is over, that they have
been forgiven, and that a new start can be made.
Forgiveness is an important part of the ethos of this school – no
child acquires ‘a bad name’. For
the duration of lunchtime all
children will start off on a clean slate and only be sent in on the third
warning unless they have already been given a yellow card in the morning. A
record of names of children who have received yellow or red cards is kept. In
general we would not expect YR or Y1 children to be given yellow or red
cards as it is felt that they are still learning how to behave
appropriately. We will take the opportunity in these situations to remind
them of our expectations. ·
Continuing to refuse to do as you are
asked. ·
Continuing
to use unkind words. ·
Seriously hurting someone deliberately ·
Damaging property deliberately. ·
Continuing to fight when asked to stop. ·
Using inappropriate/ offensive language. PUPIL
WILL BE GIVEN AN INSTANT RED CARD AND SENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE HEADTEACHER. Leaving
the premises In
the serious event of a child leaving the premises, the Headteacher or
member of the Senior Management Team should be informed and they will be
responsible for informing the police and the child’s parents/guardians.
A member of staff should observe the child if practical to do so, but on
no account should they chase or run after the child. Exclusions Physical
Intervention
The
majority of children do not behave in an aggressive or violent manner. For
children who present challenging behaviour, prevention and avoidance are
always our first measures. However, certain situations may arise for
school staff in which physical intervention may be required in dealing
with conflict. We
follow the Local Education Authority’s Guidelines for Physical
Intervention.
Every incident where physical intervention
has been used must be recorded on the child’s records and reported to
the Headteacher as soon as possible – but always on the same day. Parents
will be notified on the same day, by the class teacher or Headteacher, if
any form of physical intervention is used. Responsibility Staff
All
staff have a responsibility to ensure that they are following the school
policy and that their classroom management encourages and affirms good
behaviour as well as the school ethos. If
children are continually breaking the rules, staff have a responsibility
to seek the advice of the Head and the SENCO in order that a new strategy
for improvement of behaviour can be put into place. Parents will be
involved. Parents
All
parents should feel able to contact the school to discuss the behaviour of
their child and the way in which strategies for fostering more appropriate
behaviour are used. All
parents must understand that appropriate behaviour in the school is
essential for a safe and secure teaching and learning environment and the
raising of pupil standards and attainment. Parents
should understand that the version of events reported by the child might
not be the fullest version available and that they may need to make
contact with the school to clarify this. Parents
should work closely with the school to reinforce appropriate behaviour. Pupils
Each
pupil has a responsibility to try and understand the wider implications of
their actions and that disruption in a classroom will affect the learning
opportunities and well being of themselves and others. Pupils
should understand that disliking attitudes and behaviour is separate from
disliking individuals. The implementation of a sanction means that it is
the behaviour that is disliked, not the pupil. Children
with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. Children
with more acute emotional/behavioural needs will be supported in
accordance with our policy for Special Educational Needs (SEN). Appendix
