Admissions Policy

Our School admits children in the 4 to 11 age band up to our standard number of 30 in each academic year (September – August). Prospective parents are encouraged to make an appointment to view the school and meet the Headteacher during our working day.

If our standard number is exceeded by demand in any one academic year, it may become necessary to apply certain selection procedures.  These are applied in accordance with the Warwickshire Equal Opportunities policy and without any prejudice on grounds of race, ethnicity or ability. Kineton C. of E. V.A. Primary School will admit children in order of the following categories:

  1. Looked after children i.e. children in the care of the local authority living in the school’s priority area.

  2. Children of families living in its priority area* who will have a brother** or sister** at the school at the time of admission and who have stated this school as the first preference.

  3. Other children living in its priority area whose parents have stated this school as the first preference.

  4. Children living outside its priority area who will have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission and whose parents have stated this school as the first preference.

  5. Children living outside its priority area at the date of application, whose parents have stated this school as the first preference and who express a wish to have their children educated at a Church of England school.  (A supporting letter from an incumbent of a local Church of England will be required).

  6. Other children living outside its priority area whose parents express in writing a desire to have their child educated in a faith school and who have stated this school as the first preference.

  7.  Other children living outside its priority area whose parents have stated this school as the first preference.

* Our priority area encompasses the Parishes of Kineton, Compton Verney, Combrook, Butlers Marston and Pillerton Hersey.

Note - Individual priority within these categories is decided by the shortest ‘straight line’ route between the centre of school and the centre of the child’s normal address - where the child normally resides/ sleeps for the majority of the school week.

**Brother or sister includes half brother or half sister, adopted, step brother or step sister living at the same address as the child for whom a place is applied for.

Where places are required for twins or triplets we can exceed our stated admission number in Key Stage 2, but not where this would result in exceeding 30 in a Key Stage 1 or Reception class.  If only one place is available, only one place could be offered.  Parents would then need to decide how to proceed.

Should parents be unsuccessful in their efforts to obtain a place, the following appeal procedure is in place:

        i.      Parents must make their appeal formally, in writing, direct to the school.

ii.      Parents will be given an appeal date with at least fourteen days notice.

iii.      An independent panel organised by the Governors, or by Coventry Diocesan Board of Education, will consider the appeal.

iv.      Parents are given the opportunity to present their case to the panel.

      v.      Parents will be informed of the result as soon as possible following the appeal.

The governors of Kineton C. of E. V.A. Primary School have consulted with Coventry Diocesan Board Of Education, Warwickshire LEA,   (November 2003), and with all other Warwickshire schools on the arrangements outlined in this policy.
